For Clinicians

Liz and Rob Williams (www.aida-therapy.com) run an ongoing psychotherapy group for therapists.

The group meets weekly, in-person, on Wednesdays from 12:15-1:30pm. It is a closed group, limited to therapists who want to have a group therapy treatment for themselves with two experienced senior therapists. The group is open to psychodynamically minded and relationally oriented therapists of all experience levels.

Rob and Liz have been working together for over 10 years co-leading groups and integrating the group modality into our therapy practices. Both of us have served on the board of the Mid-Atlantic Group Psychotherapy Society, where Liz is the current President. Individually and together, we have presented and led groups at AGPA Connect, AAP, ICP&P and other professional organizations.

Couples Therapy

It is very painful when we feel disconnected in our primary relationships. If you and your partner are struggling to connect as you once did, couples therapy offers a way to explore your relationship and yourselves to understand what has changed, or what is getting in the way. We provide a supportive and encouraging environment where you can express your thoughts and feelings openly. We work to enhance your communication, interrupt unproductive patterns, and strengthen emotional bonds.

We work with couples who are experiencing issues related to emotional distance, parenting, money, sex, power imbalance, and more.

Couples therapy can take different forms. One approach offers practical, skills-based counseling to improve active listening and direct communication, helping partners better understand one another. An alternative model involves exploring the ways in which your prior experiences and relationships shape the way you and your partner see yourselves and each other. Blending these tools, as needed, we will learn how your unique history has led you to your partnership and identify historical patterns that are contributing to your current struggles.

It is possible to understand the challenges you're facing, listen to one another with empathy, and build a richer, more intimate relationship.

Group Psychotherapy

As a culture, we have lost our ability to communicate. Most of us aren’t good at sharing our journeys with others, asking for help, or building intimacy. We have been taught that we have to survive this life alone, and that if we don’t make it, it’s our own fault. This mentality drives us apart and dulls our ability to get our needs met effectively.

Group therapy is a radical opportunity to defy this idea by leveraging the power of relationships to move forward — together. It is a space where you can explore your challenges with others that are — like you — committed to their paths of healing. As a group, you can practice being in relationship, face difficult conversations, and get real-time feedback from a wide variety of people.

In a time when it is easy to feel alone and lost, group therapy has the ability to provide clarity and deep connections through community and dialog. It is a powerful healing medicine.

Art Therapy

Art therapy is an exciting way to relax the mind, explore yourself, and tap into your inner playfulness. You don’t need to be an artist or creative person to reap the benefits from this kind of therapy. In these interactive sessions, you will paint, collage, and create art.

The process of creating art can be meditative. You might have experienced this before — maybe while doodling in a notebook, making pottery, dancing, or even cooking. This sense of calm and clarity is hard to tap into in your normal routines. Creating without any attachment to outcome unites the left and right sides of the brain. By regulating the brain and stimulating all of your senses, you can explore your challenges in new ways that honor your strengths!

Through this process, you will viscerally learn lessons that help you approach the world in a way that leaves you feeling more fulfilled.
